From Therapist to Retention Strategist

The Call to Care

I started my career as a therapist in a hospital.

I supported people through the most vulnerable parts of their healing.

My focus was always simple: Listen deeply, build trust, and care with intention.

What I didn’t expect was... Care could be seen as a liability.

Though my patients loved our sessions...

Some even wanted my contact details to keep in touch post-discharge...

But the system didn’t measure care.

It measured revenue.

My KPI was to generate $500 a day.

It's not about trust nor healing.

Eventually, they let me go.

I'll always choose people over profit.

It just didn’t fit that system.

A Shift in Environment, Not in Values

At my next workplace... I kept the same people-first approach.

This time, the environment welcomed it.

I won Service Quality and Quality Improvement awards.

Many of my patients didn’t want to leave.

It became one of the most fulfilling chapters of my career.

A Deeper Pattern Emerges

Later, I stepped into entrepreneurship...

And saw the same pattern:

Profit-first businesses experience churn.

People-first businesses create loyalty.

The difference?

Emotional safety. Human care. True connection.

This is the heart of retention.
